What flatbed drivers look for in a job posting

Flatbed drivers chose flatbed over dry van β€” usually for the pay premium. If your posting doesn't mention tarping pay, they'll assume you don't pay it and move on immediately.

  • State tarping policy explicitly β€” per tarp, per load, or built into CPM? Say it. Ambiguity costs you applications.
  • Freight type specificity β€” steel coils, lumber, machinery, and oversized each require different skills. "Various flatbed freight" is a yellow flag to experienced drivers.
  • Flatbed premium β€” experienced flatbed drivers know they earn more than dry van. If you're paying dry van rates for flatbed work, fix that before you fix the job description.
  • Physical acknowledgment β€” flatbed is more demanding than dry van. Drivers who want flatbed aren't scared of this β€” they just want to know you understand what the job involves.
